Search Initiation and Site Visit
Prior to conducting an executive search assignment, it is critical to have a thorough understanding of the corporate culture of the client as well as detailed knowledge of the position itself. This understanding goes beyond just reviewing the position description. To achieve a successful placement, it is imperative to comprehend the client’s key result objectives in addition to the critical personal attributes and specific managerial and leadership characteristics required of the new executive. Every organization is unique and has distinct idiosyncrasies, which T. Pratt & Associates makes it a point to understand and relate to throughout the search process. This ensures that carefully screened candidates possess the highest degree of compatibility to the client’s organizational setting. A site visit to meet key executives in the organization, view the work environment, tour the facilities, and learn more about the community in which the executive would work is scheduled at search initiation.

T. Pratt & Associates takes the initiative to thoroughly know the client at the initiation of each search to ensure success throughout all phases of the search process. Every attempt is made to develop a relationship that builds credibility, integrity and trust. The goal is to provide the client with the executive identified as their candidate of choice. These key steps outline the beginning stages of the search:

  1. Request for organizational information (i.e. organizational charts, collateral material, statistics and performance achievements, financial data, annual reports, etc.)
  2. Site visit to meet key decision makers and tour facilities.
  3. A written report after the site visit offering insights and findings. This confirms areas of concern and allows for open discussion to make sure all parties are focused and in agreement.

References and Background Verification
In-depth referencing is conducted at all stages of the recruitment process. Direct and indirect referencing is conducted to obtain objective feedback from those that personally know the candidate. If a candidate is under serious consideration, T. Pratt & Associates will explore this individual’s past performance, effectiveness at the senior level, creativity, vision, and leadership style and abilities. There is also a critical assessment of past organizational settings compared with the client’s culture to ascertain compatibility. Verification of credentials and overall background checks also include credit, criminal, employment, education, and licenses. The references are reported verbally and in writing. Where there are areas of concern, additional probing and investigation will be conducted before a final offer is presented.

Communication
Communication is critical to the search process. The frequency of communication is discussed at the search initiation. Typically, weekly phone meetings are arranged to discuss search progress, candidates being considered, and any challenges encountered after the search initiates. A candidate matrix and written reports serve as reference tools for executives that have been presented for consideration.
